Bar Code and Scanning Solutions
Our people have been involved in the development and implementation of 1D and 2D bar code scanning systems for many years and are familiar with all forms of data capture devices from the world's leading manufacturers. We can quickly assess your needs and recommend the most appropriate devices.
PTEL Provides a range of data capture deivces:
- Wands - 'Pen' style readers to capture and record 1D bar code data for later download
- Scanners - Desk top (point of sale) or hand held devices to capture data from 1 or 2 D bar codes
- Rugged - Hand held terminals for applications involving exposure to extreme temperatures, rough handling, liquids or chemicals. Some terminals designed for users wearing gloves.
- Long Range - Essential for warehouse applications where items are stacked at multiple levels, or for fork lift operators.
- Choice - Wired for direct connection to a PC or processor, or Wireless for remote operation.

Data Capture Devices
1D Bar code readers use technologies including lasers, CCD and Linear imagers to scan and translate the code into software readable data. Some 2D readers use digital image capturing technology while RFID readers use radio frequency to interact with data tags. Hand held computers are available with integrated bar code or RFID readers.
Each technology has its own advantages, so call 01202 893399 for help choosing the best soluton for your application. |

Wired devices send captured data through a USB or RS232 cable connected directly to a PC or processor. Alternatively, a ‘wedge interface’ can be connected between the keyboard and host computer. When a barcode is scanned, the data will then appear to the host as if it originated from the keyboard. For information about these and other options, call 01202 893399.PTEL will quickly advise the best solution to meet your requirements. Our own software specialists have an in-depth knowledge of data capture and AutoID systems and will customise software to suit a particular work environment or create a bespoke solution to meet precise demands.

Wireless data capture devices use radio technology to send the captured data to a central system in real time. Data capture technology is also built in to some wireless hand held computers with two way communication enabling real time price or stock control from the shop or warehouse floor. Some wireless hand held terminals have comprehensive integrated capabilities including Voice over IP and GPS. For wireless hand held computers go to Mobile >>

About Bar Codes: Bar codes are used for stock and price control, asset tracking and for intentifying documents or linking them to people, for example, in medical applications where the code can be used to track a patient's progress through departments or to enable a software system to confirm that a particular treatment or document applies to a specific individual.

RFID
Radio Frequency Identification uses passive or active data tags rather than bar codes. Passive tags are activated by a wireless signal from a tag reader. Active tags have their own power supply and can be read from greater distances. Unlike bar codes, it is possible to write to a tag from a hand held terminal.
